PRWR Builds Animal Transport Equipment for Cedarhill Animal Sanctuary

Last month, our team spent time at Cedarhill Animal Sanctuary constructing animal transport equipment to help support their future rescues. Prior to PrideRock’s visit, Cedarhill didn’t have the necessary equipment to transport large wildlife causing the sanctuary to be overlooked when animals needed placement.

We connected with Cedarhill’s staff Michelle Roberts (Marketing Program Developer) and Nancy Gschwendtner (Executive Director) at the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance Conference (BCSA) in October of 2023, and after learning about accreditation requirements and other requirements for animal placement,  we knew we wanted to help.

“In order for an animal sanctuary to be considered for an animal placement, they need to have the necessary equipment to be able to transport animals to their sanctuary and within the sanctuary property,” Roberts said. “Despite having open enclosures and being the second sanctuary established in the country, we are often overlooked for placement due to transport.”

When hearing about this, our Executive Director, Corey Allison, knew he needed to help and made the eight-hour drive to Caledonia, MS, with staff members, Jared and Mark, to begin construction.

“All animal sanctuaries are working toward the same goal. Big cats shouldn’t be in the United States, but, unfortunately, they are and someone must take care of them. If we can help another sanctuary provide a great life for a big cat, I’m going to help,” Allison said. “Cedarhill didn’t have a roll-around animal transport, so we offered to build them one. At PrideRock, we do all of our construction on-site and knew we could do the same for them if we made the journey to Mississippi.”

On arrival, the PrideRock team worked for two days to create Cedarhill a new roll-around and offered advice on how to properly create an animal transportation trailer that is climate controlled, remains sanitary, and built properly to prevent mold.

“Cedarhill has a beautiful sanctuary with picturesque enclosures due to their natural landscape. We hope now they can fill their empty space and give future big cats a great quality of life,” said Allison.

Like PrideRock, Cedarhill Animal Sanctuary is closed to the public and has a similar mission in providing a peaceful environment for their animals. We are proud of our team for helping another in need and are grateful for the bond and friendship we have with the staff of Cedarhill. We look forward to showing them around our refuge when they make their voyage over to East Texas.
